There are
basically two types of cover letters that you can choose from depending
on the type of job position you are applying for. If you know what
specific job you want and you know the job skills and qualifications
required for it, you should be more specific in your cover letter.
If you are applying to an organization and
you
want to keep your options opened to whatever positions they have
available, you will want to have a more general cover letter. The sample
resume cover letters
below should give you an idea of the difference between the two.
Specific Cover Letter:

Mr. Doe – Dir. of Human Resources
Sales 'R' Us
234 Market Blvd.
Any City, Any State, 56789
Dear Mr. Doe:
I am
responding to your
advertisement placed in the Daily Herald dated February 15, 2008
regarding the Pharmaceutical Representative position. Please find
enclosed my resume showing my experience, education, and background.
I have
over 5 years of experience in the sales and marketing field, and 4
years experience as an LPN nurse.
During my
sales and marketing
career I met my monthly quotas and sales goals, while also helping
other sales representatives increase theirs through on-site training. I
take pleasure in working with the public, demonstrating and developing
products, and educating others.
I believe
that I would
succeed in pharmaceutical sales due to my interest and past experience
in sales. In addition, my combined knowledge from my nursing background
would help me better understand the products I would sell.
I would be
pleased to arrange
an interview with you to further discuss my skills and qualifications.
I am available to meet at a time that is convenient for both of us.
Thank you
for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Wanda Job
